Two Poems from David Groveman

The Great Question

There is one single question we ask ourselves each day,

Should we all just boldly go, or the galaxy far away?

Does colored shirt determine who you are and where you fit,

Or how much fear your heart doth hold, on the council if you sit?

Do you bravely face the Empire, do the Federation serve,

Is it Ewoks, Tribbles, Gungans, who are on your final nerve?

Does your fandom rest its laurels on the heads of George or Gene?

Would you fly aboard the Falcon or some Enterprise machine?

As you look upon your choices, should you wars or do you trek,

The two have more in common than you’ll read in just the spec.

So whether you’re a Jedi, or have green blood just like Spock,

Have love for Quark, Luke, or Sulu, there is no call to knock,

If general orders you ignore, we will not tell the odds,

Since the force binds all together and the Klingons killed their Gods,

Why even ask the question, should you warp the Kessel Run,

For hate leads to the dark side, and space shoots should be fun.

Who’s Laughing Now

You had me at the disadvantage just the other day,

I was cold and unaware and had no inkling what to say,

So I muttered something muffled, full of gummy vowel broth,

Rhyleh nurgle frelthep mystral gal’thor mym and also Thoth.

How should I know when invoking some old ancient incantation,

What I’d summon would unveil a deep-set worldwide lamentation,

And this is all really your fault, making me feel small and dumb,

When you were decapitated all I felt was kind of numb.

But I’m sure I’ve learned my lesson and to that I make a vow,

So I summoned up Cthulu, still I ask, “Who’s laughing now?”
